Government is set to officially launch its 5G high-speed internet service today, November 1, 2024, at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. 



President Akufo-Addo is expected to lead the announcement, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital landscape.



5G, or Fifth Generation Wireless Technology, promises to revolutionize internet connectivity with higher speeds, faster upload and download times, and improved reliability. 



The new network operates on the same radio frequencies as previous generations—3G, 4G, and 4G LTE—but offers enhancements that allow for shorter download and upload times, making it approximately ten times faster than 4G Plus services.



During a recent media engagement, the Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, highlighted that the government has partnered with seven industry leaders to establish shared infrastructure for the deployment of 5G services across Ghana. 



This collaboration aims to ensure that affordable and high-speed mobile broadband is accessible to all Ghanaians.



Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful emphasized the myriad benefits of 5G for the nation, including faster data speeds, lower latency, and enhanced connectivity. 



These advancements are expected to facilitate improved access to essential digital services, such as healthcare, education, and financial services.



The government has awarded the 5G license to The Next Gen InfraCo NGIC, a new shared infrastructure company co-promoted by the government and several private firms, including Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, Tech Mahindra, AT Ghana, and Telecel Ghana. 



This initiative aims to provide Ghanaians with reliable and affordable 5G mobile broadband services, setting the stage for a new era of digital innovation in the country.
