Herman Kojo Chinery-Hesse, celebrated as the ‘Bill Gates of Africa’ and a pioneering figure in the technology landscape, is laid to rest on November 2, 2024. 



Chinery-Hesse, the founder of theSOFTtribe, passed away on September 16, 2024, due to cardiac arrest, leaving behind a profound legacy in advancing technology in Ghana and beyond.



The funeral service celebrated the life of Chinery-Hesse, who was born on November 18, 1963, in Dublin, Ireland, into a distinguished Ghanaian family known for its commitment to public service. 



His father, Lebrecht James Chinery-Hesse, was a notable legal draftsman, while his mother, Mary Akuokor Chinery-Hesse, was a respected diplomat and the first woman to achieve the rank of Under Secretary-General at the United Nations.



Raised in Jamestown, Ghana, Chinery-Hesse developed a strong connection to his roots. 



His educational journey began at Ridge Church School and continued at Mfantsipim School, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors in technology and entrepreneurship.



In 1982, he moved to the United States, completing his high school education at Westlake High School in Texas. He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from Texas State University, where he first recognized the transformative power of technology.



After a brief sojourn in the UK, Chinery-Hesse returned to Ghana with a vision to empower African businesses through innovative technology solutions. His contributions have significantly shaped the tech landscape in Ghana, making him a revered figure in the industry.







Herman Chinery-Hesse&#8217;s legacy as a visionary entrepreneur and advocate for technological advancement will continue to inspire future generations.
