Meta’s WhatsApp in 2025 will no longer support certain smartphone models. 



This update will primarily affect 18 Android models and 3 iPhone models, rendering them unable to use the messaging platform.



Beginning January 1, 2025, WhatsApp will cease support for Android devices running the KitKat operating system and any earlier versions. Users with KitKat may still use the app if their devices can be updated to a more recent OS. 



However, many older phone models are no longer receiving official updates from their manufacturers, making it impossible for users to upgrade unless they resort to potentially risky DIY methods that could void warranties and damage the devices.



Affected Android models include:

<li>Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini</li>



<li>Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E (2014)</li>



<li>HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601</li>



<li>LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90</li>



<li>Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V</li>
</ul>



Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, explains that these changes are part of regular updates aimed at maintaining security and functionality while adapting to newer device standards.



In addition, from May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will stop functioning on iPhones running iOS versions earlier than 15.1. The affected models include the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which can only update to iOS 12.5.7.



These changes will impact both the regular WhatsApp application and WhatsApp Business, both of which will require the latest operating systems to continue functioning.



For users who have maintained older devices, it may be time to consider upgrading to ensure continued access to WhatsApp and its features.
