Two security officers at the Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO) were assaulted on Wednesday by individuals believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). 



The incident occurred as the group attempted to storm the company’s premises with the intention of locking the offices of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Deputy CEO, an act linked to the conclusion of President Akufo-Addo’s tenure.



Kwame Abubakar Essuman, the Director of Human Resources and Administration at VALCO, confirmed the assault to Accra-based CitiTv. 



He reported that one of the security officers was injured during the altercation, requiring medical attention.



 “The officer was struck from behind with a stick, resulting in swelling on his head and general body pain. He has since been treated and discharged,” Essuman explained.



In light of this attack, the Tema Newtown District Police Command has assured VALCO of heightened security measures to safeguard the premises and prevent any further disturbances. 



The incident has raised concerns over political tensions and the safety of personnel at VALCO, prompting calls for increased vigilance in the face of escalating political activities.



Authorities are investigating the matter, and the situation remains under close observation as VALCO staff resume their duties in a heightened security environment.
