Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has come to the defense of party supporters accused of vandalizing state properties and attacking government institutions. 



He claims that their actions are aimed at protecting state assets rather than committing acts of violence.



In an interview with Citi Tv, Gbande expressed that the NDC supporters are motivated by a desire to preserve state property amidst a climate of perceived impunity in the handling of government resources. 



He emphasized that the party does not condone theft or vandalism, but believes the actions of its supporters should be viewed in a different light.



“The young people of this country are determined to change the narrative of our country, where people steal government property and money with impunity,” Gbande stated. 



He underscored that while the situation is unfortunate, it is crucial to recognize those who are allegedly sacrificing their time and efforts to protect state property.



Gbande clarified that if the supporters were indeed stealing from the state, that would represent a different issue. 



However, he insists that their motivation is to safeguard state assets that they believe are being misappropriated by government officials.



The NDC Deputy General Secretary also noted that the party is actively collaborating with the Inspector General of Police and other stakeholders to restore law and order. 



“We are working with some individuals within the former government who are still at post to try and regularize the situation,” he added.
