<p>The government of Burkina Faso has upheld its export ban on key agricultural commodities, including rice, millet, maize, sorghum, and white beans (cowpea), a move expected to impact regional trade.</p>



<p>The restriction, first outlined in a joint communique on December 19, 2023, and reaffirmed on November 13, 2024, prohibits the export of these goods beyond Burkina Faso’s borders.</p>



<p>In response, Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged local traders and businesses that rely on imports from Burkina Faso to adhere to the directive.</p>



<p>“We strongly advise all traders and businesses to adhere to this directive. The government of Burkina Faso has made it clear that this ban will continue, and failure to comply could result in serious consequences for those involved in the trade of these commodities,” the Ministry stated.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"></h3>



<p>The ban is expected to affect Ghana’s food supply chain, as these cereals and legumes are essential staples in the country’s agricultural sector.</p>



<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured stakeholders that it will continue to provide updates and support to ensure full compliance with the directive while encouraging businesses to seek alternative sources for these commodities.</p>
