Former Deputy Majority Leader and Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has shed light on the dramatic exit of Prof. Mike Oquaye as Speaker of Parliament.



Speaking in an interview on Movement Radio/TV, Adwoa Safo disclosed that the number of votes cast against Prof. Oquaye was so overwhelming that she hesitated to reveal the exact figures publicly.



&#8220;They were not two or one, those who voted against him were more than that number,&#8221; she stated, emphasizing that the opposition to his leadership was widespread within Parliament.



According to her, the push for Prof. Oquaye’s replacement had been ongoing long before the vote, with MPs consistently lobbying for a change in leadership.



&#8220;They were always coming to us to tell us Nana to replace him,&#8221; she revealed, suggesting that his removal was carefully planned.







Adwoa Safo hinted that the outcome of the vote could have triggered a national crisis had the ballots been counted openly.



&#8220;If ballots had been counted on that day, Ghana would have turned upside down,&#8221; she remarked, reflecting the intense political tension surrounding the Speaker’s election.



She also defended the controversial actions of Carlos Ahenkorah, who attempted to snatch ballot papers during the vote, suggesting that his reaction stemmed from the shocking scale of votes against Prof. Oquaye.



&#8220;The people who voted NO were not one or two. We had a national security minister. Why do you think that Hon. Carlos was gingered to go and destroy the ballots? Do you think there is something wrong with him?&#8221; she questioned.







Adwoa Safo’s revelations confirm long-standing suspicions of deep divisions within Parliament, particularly concerning leadership choices.
