The Golden Age of Ghana Tourism has highlighted the urgent need for better maintenance of the country&#8217;s tourism destinations. The group points to widespread mismanagement, with filth and overgrown grass detracting from the appeal of several sites.



Speaking at the launch of a clean-up awareness exercise at the Independence Arch, Manajah Nii Tetteh Nixon called on authorities to take immediate action. He emphasized that keeping tourist sites clean is critical to supporting President John Dramani Mahama’s &#8220;reset&#8221; agenda.



&#8220;The Independence Arch is the eye of Ghana,&#8221; Nixon said. &#8220;Ghana is a brand, and it must be clean to attract visitors. Tourism is beauty, and beauty is tourism. It is shameful for tourists to encounter filth at our key attractions.&#8221;



He urged President Mahama to dismiss any appointee who fails to uphold cleanliness standards.



The initiative was supported by Bela Russian Travel and Tour, led by Mr. Eric Sosu, who also expressed concern over the growing filth in Accra.



Mr. Sosu advocated for the revival of punishments for indiscriminate waste disposal and called for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to manage their own sanitation contracts, warning against monopolies in waste management.
